OpenAI says it will build a humanoid robot
OpenAI will build a humanoid robot: Sam Altman said "We will" on the Sources podcast, as Engadget reported on October 17. What exists right now is a promise of a demo in 2027 and 27 robotics openings on the careers page. I actually like the one thing he did say, that the body matters less than the brain that runs it. That's the honest part. Everything else is a job listing with a very loud press cycle.
The question
Is OpenAI building a humanoid robot, and when will we see it?
In one line
Yes. Sam Altman said "We will" when asked on the Sources podcast, reported on October 17, 2026. OpenAI has 27 robotics job listings and has promised only a demo in 2027. There is no robot, no price and no launch date yet.
1The problem
Humanoid robots have looked impressive in demo videos for years, and almost none of them do useful work in a home without someone nearby to rescue them. The bottleneck has always been the software that decides what to do next, not the legs.
2What changed
Altman confirmed OpenAI is building one, saying the world is "very much designed for people" so matching the human form seems good. Engadget counts 27 robotics roles, covering actuators, motion control and supply chain, and OpenAI's own target is a demo in 2027.
3The catch
There's no robot to look at, no price and no date. A 2027 demo is not a product, and Tesla and XPeng are already further down this road with hardware you can at least see.
4What it means for you
Nothing to buy or plan for yet. If you work near robotics or AI hardware, those 27 openings tell you where OpenAI is spending, which is more useful than the headline.
Questions people ask
What will OpenAI's humanoid robot actually do first?
According to OpenAI's job postings, the first goal is general-purpose robots that help skilled workers build infrastructure, with a personal robot for wider household tasks coming later. The postings mention custom actuators, motion control and manufacturing work. OpenAI hasn't said what the 2027 demo will show.
Can I buy an OpenAI robot in India?
No, and not for a while. OpenAI hasn't announced a product, a price or a release date anywhere, India included. Altman told Fortune in September that he expects a cool demo in 2027, and that robots walking the streets are a few years further away than that.
No satellite internet in India yet, Starlink included
No satellite internet service has launched in India yet, not Starlink, not Jio's, not OneWeb's, according to Inc42's October 18 look at the queue. All three have licences and all three are stuck at the same step: security assessment, with spectrum only after that. So the Rs 8,600 Starlink plan your uncle forwarded is not a plan. Starlink itself called those website prices test data back in December. I'd stop budgeting for a dish this Diwali.
The question
Is Starlink satellite internet available in India yet?
In one line
No. As of October 18, 2026, no satellite internet service has launched in India. Starlink, Jio Satellite and Eutelsat OneWeb all hold GMPCS licences, but security assessments are still underway, and spectrum is assigned only after they finish. No operator has a launch date.
1The problem
Satellite broadband is the one real fix for patchy connections in hills, villages and highway dhabas, and people have been told it's coming for years. That gap gets filled with forwarded price lists and launch rumours.
2What changed
Inc42 lays out where it actually stands as of October 18: the DoT says all three operators hold GMPCS licences, security assessments are still running, and spectrum gets assigned after they're done. OneWeb has had its licence since August 2021, Jio Satellite since March 2022, Starlink since June 2025.
3The catch
The Rs 8,600 a month and Rs 34,000 kit figures came from Starlink's own site in December 2025, which is why they keep circulating, but Starlink told Storyboard18 no pricing had been announced. Nobody has given a date, and TRAI's 30-day spectrum window only starts after clearance.
4What it means for you
If your home or office needs better internet now, fibre or 5G fixed wireless is the realistic option. Ignore anyone taking Starlink bookings or deposits in India today.
Questions people ask
Is the Rs 8,600 a month Starlink price in India real?
No. The Rs 8,600 monthly plan and Rs 34,000 kit appeared on Starlink's India website in December 2025, and Starlink said no pricing had been announced and the numbers were test data shown by a glitch. Treat any Starlink India price you see as unconfirmed until the service actually launches.
Which satellite internet company will launch first in India?
Nobody can say yet. The Ministry of Communications says Starlink, Jio Satellite and OneWeb are at broadly the same regulatory stage. OneWeb has waited longest, with a licence since August 2021, and Sunil Mittal says its ground network has been ready for three years. Spectrum comes only after security clearance.
Skip the GPay helpline search. The ticket is in the app
Google Pay already has a complaint path inside the app: Show transaction history, tap the payment, then Having Issues, Payment issue, Create a ticket, as Google Pay Help lays out. Most people skip it and search for a helpline instead, which is exactly where fake "GPay customer care" numbers live. The ticket is slower to find than a phone number, but it can't ask for your UPI PIN. For actual fraud, call your bank first, then the cybercrime police.
The question
How do I complain about a failed payment in Google Pay?
In one line
Open Google Pay, tap Show transaction history, pick the payment, then tap Having Issues, Payment issue and Create a ticket. Google's help page says banks usually reverse failed debits within 3 business days. For fraud, contact your bank first and report it to cybercrime police.
1The problem
When a UPI payment fails or goes to the wrong place, the instinct is to search for a helpline, and scammers buy and seed fake customer care numbers for exactly that moment. One call can turn a Rs 500 problem into an emptied account.
2What changed
The Google Pay Help page lists the in-app route: open the transaction from your history, tap Having Issues, then Payment issue, Create a ticket, and attach the bank statement it asks for. Banks usually add a failed debit back within 3 business days, and you can raise a dispute if that doesn't happen.
3The catch
The ticket handles stuck and failed payments well. It can't claw back money you sent to a scammer yourself, which is a bank and police job.
4What it means for you
Next time a payment misbehaves, open the transaction before you open a browser. Nobody genuine will ever need your UPI PIN to send you money back.
Questions people ask
Does Google Pay have a customer care phone number?
Google Pay's India help page sends you to in-app tickets and a report form, and tells you to call your bank, which runs 24x7 fraud support. It doesn't list a phone helpline for disputes, so a "GPay customer care" number from a search result or a stranger is a red flag, not a shortcut.
What if my Google Pay complaint isn't resolved?
Google Pay's help page says that if an issue stays unresolved for more than 30 days, you can write to the Google Pay nodal officer at nodal-gpay@google.com. Keep your ticket details and bank statement ready. For fraud, also report to your bank and the cybercrime police, since Google Pay can't reverse a bank debit itself.
Fraudster used your UPI PIN? It isn't automatically your loss
A UPI fraud that used your PIN is not automatically your loss. In a ruling reported on October 17, a Punjab consumer commission upheld an order making a bank refund Rs 72,495 plus costs, rejecting the argument that PIN authentication alone proved the customer was careless, as The420.in reported. That's not a loophole. The 2017 RBI circular already says the bank has to prove you were at fault. The part people get wrong is the clock: three working days, starting from the bank's SMS.
The question
Will my bank refund a UPI fraud if my PIN was used?
In one line
Possibly, yes. RBI's 2017 rules put the burden of proving customer liability on the bank, and a Punjab consumer commission ruling reported October 17, 2026 held that a PIN alone doesn't prove negligence. Report within three working days, though, because a delay raises your liability.
1The problem
Banks routinely tell UPI fraud victims that a correct PIN means the customer was negligent, case closed. Most people believe it, don't file in writing, and miss the window that actually decides who pays.
2What changed
The Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission upheld relief for a Bathinda customer who lost Rs 72,495 across 11 UPI transactions in 2019: a full refund, Rs 5,000 compensation and Rs 5,000 costs, plus interest, The420.in reported on October 17. It relied on RBI's 2017 framework, which says the burden of proving customer liability lies with the bank.
3The catch
This took seven years, and it isn't a blank cheque. If you handed the PIN or OTP to a scammer yourself, the RBI circular says you carry the loss until you report it, and only after that does it shift to the bank.
4What it means for you
The moment you see a debit you didn't make, report it to your bank in writing and keep the reference number, then call 1930. Do it within three working days, even if you suspect it was your own slip.
Questions people ask
How fast do I need to report a UPI fraud to get a refund?
Within three working days of the bank's SMS or email about the transaction. Under RBI's 2017 circular, a third-party breach reported in that window means zero liability. Reporting in four to seven working days caps your loss at Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 depending on the account. Later than that, the bank's policy decides.
What if I shared my UPI PIN or OTP with the scammer myself?
Then the rules are tougher on you. RBI's circular says that where the loss is due to the customer's negligence, such as sharing payment credentials, the customer bears it until they report the transaction to the bank. Anything debited after you report is the bank's problem. So report immediately even if you think it's your fault.
How long does the bank have to credit my money back?
RBI's 2017 circular says the bank must credit the disputed amount to your account within 10 working days of your report, as a shadow reversal, without waiting for insurance. It must settle the complaint within 90 days, and if it can't, it has to pay you the prescribed compensation.
Anthropic's own data: junior tech hires fell from 27% to 9%
Anthropic says junior hires fell from 27% to 9% of its technical hiring since early 2025, in a report it published on October 16 about its own workforce (Anthropic). Agent hours now outnumber human hours six to one. Credit where it's due, no other AI lab has published its own numbers this plainly. But if you're a fresher, read the fine print: they're hiring for judgment and autonomy, not for the stuff an agent already does.
The question
Is AI reducing junior tech hiring at AI companies like Anthropic?
In one line
At Anthropic, yes. Its October 16, 2026 report says junior hires fell from 27% to 9% of technical hiring since early 2025, while agent work hours now outnumber human hours six to one. Anthropic calls the junior finding descriptive, not proof that AI caused it.
1The problem
Every AI company says its tools will create more jobs than they replace, and none of them show their own hiring data. Freshers in India are left guessing whether the entry-level tech job is shrinking or just changing.
2What changed
Anthropic's October 16 study says the junior share of its technical staff dropped from 21% to 14%, and junior technical hires from 27% to 9%. Agent hours first passed human hours in March 2026 and were six times employee hours by August.
3The catch
It's one fast-growing company, and the authors say the junior finding is descriptive, not causal. Indian IT still hires at scale, with Infosys sticking to at least 20,000 freshers in FY27, per Outlook Business.
4What it means for you
If you're starting out, build proof that you can run and check an agent's work: a project where you directed AI, caught its mistakes and shipped something. That's the line on a CV this report says hiring managers now want.
Questions people ask
Does Anthropic's report mean entry-level IT jobs in India are disappearing?
Not directly. Anthropic's report covers its own staff, and the authors say many of its practices can't be replicated across the economy. Indian IT is still hiring freshers; Infosys said in April it expects at least 20,000 in FY27. But it's a clear signal of where AI-heavy employers are taking the entry-level bar.
What skills does Anthropic now look for when hiring?
Anthropic's report says hiring managers increasingly prioritise autonomy and judgment over domain expertise, and that non-technical hiring grew in sales, finance and recruiting. In practice that means being able to direct and check AI agents' work, not just write code that an agent could produce on its own.
