GPT-6 turns ChatGPT answers into charts, calculators and buttons

GPT-6 started rolling out in ChatGPT on October 7 for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, and reaches Free and Go users today on a lighter model called Luna. The headline feature is Intelligent UI: instead of a wall of text, ChatGPT can now answer with a recipe widget that rescales for your guest count, a bill splitter, a chart or a small form. It's a genuinely nicer way to get some answers. It also makes a wrong answer look a lot more official.

    The problem

Chatbots have been stuck answering everything as text, even when what you actually wanted was a table, a calculator or something you could tap. You end up copying numbers into a spreadsheet to do the last bit yourself.

    What changed

OpenAI's GPT-6 shipped to paid ChatGPT plans on October 7 as GPT-6 Sol, with Free and Go users getting GPT-6 Luna from October 8. Intelligent UI lets it decide when to answer with interactive elements like charts, buttons, checklists, maps and mini tools, and it can start answering before it has finished reasoning. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts responding 44% sooner than GPT-5.6 Instant when it needs to search.

    The catch

The benchmark and speed numbers are OpenAI's own, and nobody has published an independent check of how accurate these generated tools are. It only applies to the Chat tab for now, not ChatGPT Work or Codex.

    What it means for you

Try it on the boring stuff, like splitting a trip budget or scaling a recipe, where it saves real time. For anything involving money or health, treat the shiny calculator as a first draft and verify the numbers yourself.

Samsung's record $80B quarter is why your laptop costs more

Samsung expects about 107.4 trillion won (roughly $80 billion) in operating profit for July to September, around nine times last year and the biggest quarter any tech company has reported. Almost all of it comes from memory chips, which AI data centres are buying as fast as Samsung can make them. The flip side lands in Indian shops: RAM prices are up two and a half to three times, and laptop and phone prices have been climbing all year. If you need a device, waiting for prices to fall is not much of a plan.

    The problem

AI data centres need huge amounts of memory, and the companies that make it can't add factories fast enough. That squeeze doesn't stay in the server room; the same DRAM and storage go into every phone and laptop.

    What changed

Samsung's preliminary Q3 numbers, released October 8, point to about 107.4 trillion won in operating profit (around $80.2 billion) on roughly 195 trillion won in revenue, up 127% year on year. It is shifting capacity toward high-margin HBM for AI chips, and has already raised prices on many of its own smartphones and electronics. The full breakdown comes on October 29.

    The catch

These are preliminary figures without a division split, so we don't yet know how hard Samsung's own phone business was squeezed. Price forecasts for India, like IDC's view that relief may not come until late 2027, are estimates and can move.

    What it means for you

If your laptop or phone is dying, buy during the festive sales rather than holding out for a drop that probably isn't coming this year. Spend on RAM and storage at purchase, because that's the part getting most expensive and most laptops won't let you upgrade it later.

    tip

Add after: to a Google search to skip stale results

Google supports two date operators most people never use. Add after:2026-09-01 to the end of a search and you only get pages from after that date; before: does the opposite, and you can combine them to box in a range. It's the quickest fix for searches like best phone under 30000 that keep serving you listicles from three years ago.

    The problem

Google often ranks old, well-linked pages above newer ones, which is fine for history and useless for prices, phone recommendations or anything that changes every few months.

    What changed

Type after:YYYY-MM-DD or before:YYYY-MM-DD in the search box alongside your words, for example best phone under 30000 after:2026-09-01. A year on its own, like after:2025, also works. The Tools menu has a time filter too, but the operator is faster and you can save it in a bookmark.

    The catch

Dates come from what Google thinks a page's publish date is, and some sites quietly update old posts with a new date. Treat it as a strong filter, not a guarantee.

    What it means for you

Use it for anything price or launch related, especially during sale season. If you're on mobile, it works the same in the Google app and Chrome's address bar.

    hot take

That polite Hindi support call is probably an AI agent

ElevenLabs says India is now its second-biggest market, and the numbers behind that are about you. Indian businesses ran 100 million conversations through its voice agents in the past year, and more than 70% were in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil or Telugu. I'm fine with bots taking routine calls, honestly they're often quicker. What isn't fine is a bot that pretends to be a person, or one that loops you forever with no way to reach a human.

    The problem

Indian customer support runs on huge call volumes in many languages, and companies have spent years trying to cut that cost. Voice AI that sounds natural in Hindi or Tamil makes replacing human agents a lot easier.

    What changed

At its India summit in Bengaluru on October 6, ElevenLabs said more than 25,000 Indian developers and businesses use its API each month, about 2.5x a year ago, and its Eleven v4 model now covers 14 Indian languages with all 22 official ones planned. CARS24 runs over 400 voice agents that have handled three million call minutes, and Razorpay has handled more than 35,000 Hinglish merchant calls. Karnataka also signed an MoU with the company for Kannada voice apps.

    The catch

These are ElevenLabs' own figures, not audited, and there's no rule in India yet that forces a company to tell you when you're talking to AI. The 22-language target is a plan, not something it has shipped.

    What it means for you

If a support call feels oddly smooth, ask whether you're speaking to a person; a decent system should tell you and hand you over. For anything serious, like a bank dispute or a refund, push for a human and get a ticket number either way.

OPPO F35 vs F35 Pro: pay the extra 7k or skip both

OPPO launched the F35 and F35 Pro in India this week and the choice between them is easier than the spec sheets suggest. Both have the same 8,000mAh battery, 80W charging and a pile of IP ratings up to IP69K. The Pro, from Rs 45,999, adds a Dimensity 7360 Max, an OIS main camera, an 8MP ultrawide and a 1.5K screen. The F35, from Rs 38,999, has none of those, and that's a lot to give up at nearly 39 thousand.

    The problem

Mid-range phones in India keep getting more expensive while the base models in a series quietly lose the parts that matter, so it's easy to save a few thousand and end up with a worse daily phone.

    What changed

The F35 Pro costs Rs 45,999 (6+128GB), Rs 49,999 (8+128GB) and Rs 54,999 (8+256GB) with a 4nm Dimensity 7360 Max, 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED, 50MP OIS main camera and 8MP ultrawide. The F35 costs Rs 38,999 (6+128GB) and Rs 42,999 (8+128GB) with a 6nm Dimensity 6360 Max, FHD+ screen, 50MP main without OIS, a 2MP depth sensor and a single speaker. Both go on sale October 11 on Flipkart, Amazon and offline, with festive offers until October 21.

    The catch

Neither phone has been properly reviewed yet, so camera quality and sustained performance are unknowns. The 8,000mAh figure is typical capacity; the rated number is 7,780mAh.

    What it means for you

If the battery and durability are why you want an F35, buy the Pro. If your budget stops at Rs 39,000, shop around this festive sale before settling for the base F35.
